Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and music producer Debbie Crankin is back with her second single “Parasite”. “Parasite” is the second single from the upcoming debut studio album from Debbie Crankin. “Parasite” was written, recorded, performed, and produced by Debbie Crankin to give pop-rock an electronic edge. The single features mixing from 10x Grammy award winning Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Beck engineer Darrell Thorp and mastering from Grammy-award winning engineer Emily Lazar who is also the first engineer to have three albums nominated for 3 Grammy Album Of The Year, with Coldplay, HAIM and Jacob Collier.
An Instagram story post describes her motivations behind the song:
“I feel as though social media, especially platforms like TikTok, have become parasitic to artists both emerging and established alike as we have seen disdain expressed in the music industry for being expected to or forced create silly, asinine, bite sized content and concoct viral
moments,” Debbie said. "We have also allowed the platform to make individuals believe they are famous for having large followings but nothing in the real world to show for it that don’t posses any real talents or skills. And don’t get me started on people that are so desperate for
views they sit around making up false stories about peoples lives and beginnings that isn't consistent with actual events,” Debbie continued.
“People in the music industry and Hollywood producers can be parasitic as well. I have heard too many stories of producers taking advantage of young artists and I was a casualty of that as well in my own right which is why I’ve made it imperative to produce my own music. It’s okay if
your ideas get so big that you need additional personnel—just make sure they’re the right people. I hope young artists who move to LA watch out for that.”
